McAlpine STW8-R 40mm 50mm Seal Shower Trap with 85mm Chrome Flange
McAlpine STW8-R is a 40mm / 1½” resealing shower trap with a 50mm water seal and 85mm chrome plated plastic flange. It is designed for shower tray waste installations where a deeper water seal and larger visible flange are required.
McAlpine STW8-R Trade Overview
The McAlpine STW8-R is suitable for shower trays with a 50mm waste hole. It is a practical option for plumbers, bathroom fitters and maintenance teams working on shower tray installations, shower waste replacements and bathroom refurbishment jobs.
This trap has a 50mm water seal to help prevent drain odours from coming back through the shower waste. The resealing trap design helps support the trap seal where waste pipework may be affected by pressure changes.
The 85mm chrome plated plastic flange gives a neat visible finish inside the shower tray. The waste grid and dip tube are removable from above, making cleaning and maintenance easier after installation.
The STW8-R is supplied with a 95° bend, BSP coupling nut and 1½” Multifit outlet. The Multifit outlet helps connect to common 40mm waste pipe materials, making it useful for both new installations and replacement shower tray waste work.

STW8-R vs STW4-R
The McAlpine STW8-R and STW4-R are both 50mm seal resealing shower traps for shower trays with a 50mm waste hole. The main difference is the visible flange size. The STW4-R has a 70mm chrome flange, while the STW8-R has a larger 85mm chrome flange.
Use the STW8-R where the shower tray, existing waste opening or customer preference requires the larger 85mm flange finish.
Installation Notes
Before fitting, check that the shower tray has a suitable 50mm waste hole and enough clearance below the tray for the trap body and outlet bend. Make sure the sealing washer is seated correctly and that the chrome flange is tightened securely.
Connect the outlet to suitable 40mm / 1½” waste pipework. After installation, run water through the shower tray and check the flange, trap body and outlet connection for leaks.
The McAlpine STW8-R is a shower tray trap. For wet room floor drainage, bath wastes or basin wastes, use a trap designed for that specific application.
