McAlpine STW4-R 40mm 50mm Seal Shower Trap with 70mm Chrome Flange
McAlpine STW4-R is a 40mm / 1½” resealing shower trap with a 50mm water seal and 70mm chrome plated plastic flange. It is designed for shower tray waste installations where a deeper water seal is preferred over a shallow 19mm seal shower trap.
McAlpine STW4-R Trade Overview
The McAlpine STW4-R shower trap is suitable for shower trays with a 50mm waste hole. It is a practical choice for plumbers, bathroom fitters and maintenance teams carrying out shower tray installations, shower waste replacements and bathroom refurbishment work.
This trap has a 50mm water seal to help prevent drain odours from coming back through the shower waste. The resealing design also helps support the trap seal where waste pipework may be affected by pressure changes.
The 70mm chrome plated plastic flange gives a clean visible finish inside the shower tray. The waste grid and dip tube are removable from above, which helps with cleaning and maintenance without needing to remove the full trap body.
The STW4-R has a 1½” BSP thread and is supplied with a 95° bend, BSP coupling nut and 1½” Multifit outlet. The Multifit connection is suitable for common waste pipe materials, making it useful for both new installs and replacement shower waste jobs.

A 50mm seal shower trap gives a deeper water seal than a shallow 19mm seal shower trap. This can be useful where there is enough space below the shower tray and where improved odour protection is preferred.
The McAlpine STW4-R is a good option for shower tray installations where the waste trap needs to remain serviceable. The removable waste grid and dip tube help with future cleaning, especially where hair and soap residue may collect around the shower waste.
Installation Notes
Before fitting, check that the shower tray has a suitable 50mm waste hole and that there is enough space below the tray for the deeper trap body and outlet bend. Make sure the sealing washer is seated correctly and that the chrome flange is tightened securely.
Connect the outlet to suitable 40mm / 1½” waste pipework. After installation, run water through the shower tray and check the flange, trap body and outlet connection for leaks.
The McAlpine STW4-R is the 50mm seal resealing shower trap. For a shallower 19mm seal version, use the STW3-R instead.
