McAlpine WM4 40mm 1½” Sink Trap TeeVent
McAlpine WM4 is a 40mm / 1½” sink trap designed for use with the McAlpine TeeVent appliance waste system. It is suitable for kitchen and utility sink waste installations where appliance discharge from a washing machine or dishwasher needs to be managed neatly through the trap system.
McAlpine WM4 Trade Overview
The McAlpine WM4 is a practical appliance sink trap for plumbers, kitchen fitters and maintenance teams working on under-sink waste pipework. It is commonly used where a washing machine or dishwasher waste hose needs to connect into the sink waste system using the TeeVent arrangement.
The trap has a 75mm water seal to help prevent drain odours from coming back through the sink waste. It also features a 1½” Multifit compression outlet, suitable for common waste pipe materials including plastic, copper and lead pipe.
The adjustable inlet helps with alignment below the sink, making this trap useful for replacement work and kitchen refurbishments where pipe positions are already fixed. The 135° swivel inlet connection gives extra fitting flexibility when setting up the appliance discharge route.

WM4 vs WM1, WM2 and WM3
The McAlpine WM4 is different from the WM1, WM2 and WM3. The WM1 is a sink trap with a domestic appliance inlet, the WM2 has a horizontal appliance nozzle, and the WM3 is a standpipe trap. The WM4 is the TeeVent sink trap option, designed for appliance waste setups using the TeeVent arrangement.
Use the WM4 where the installation requires a TeeVent-style appliance waste connection rather than a simple appliance nozzle or separate standpipe.
Installation Notes
Before fitting, check that the sink waste outlet and waste pipework are suitable for a 40mm / 1½” trap. Position the trap below the sink, adjust the inlet to suit the waste outlet and connect the Multifit outlet to the waste pipe.
When connecting appliance discharge, follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions for hose height and air break requirements. After installation, run water through the sink and test the connected appliance discharge to check all compression joints and waste connections for leaks.
