Description

The 160mm access bend 90° double socket is an underground drainage fitting for changing pipe direction while keeping a useful access point within the system. It is designed for 160mm underground drainage pipework and is suitable for larger foul water and surface water drainage layouts.

This access bend is useful where a drainage run needs a sharp change of direction and future rodding or inspection access may also be required. The double socket design allows compatible 160mm pipe to connect into both ends of the fitting using push-fit ring seal joints.

The integrated access point helps installers and maintenance teams reach the pipe run after installation. This can make future inspection, cleaning and blockage clearance easier, especially on longer runs or harder-to-reach drainage layouts.

160mm Access Bend for Underground Drainage

The 160mm access bend is used in underground drainage systems where pipe direction needs to change at around 90 degrees. It is suitable for larger drainage systems where 160mm pipework is specified.

Access bends are often used where maintenance access is important. They can help reduce the need to disturb pipework later, as the access cap gives a direct route into the bend area for inspection or rodding.

160mm Access Bend with Double Socket Connections

This 160mm access bend has socketed connections at both ends. This helps make installation straightforward when joining two sections of 160mm underground drainage pipe.

The sockets are designed for compatible push-fit pipework. For best results, make sure each pipe end is clean before jointing. Also, use suitable pipe lubricant on the seal where required by the system.

If a pipe is cut to length, make a clean square cut. Then chamfer the cut edge before inserting it into the socket. This helps protect the ring seal and makes the pipe easier to push into position.

160mm Access Bend for Inspection and Maintenance

The 160mm access bend includes a removable access point. This is useful if the drainage run needs inspection, testing, cleaning or rodding after installation.

When planning the drainage layout, position the access bend so the cap remains reachable. Avoid installing it where the access point will be blocked by concrete, chamber walls, landscaping, other fittings or finished groundworks.

The access cap should be checked during installation to make sure it is secure. It should also remain accessible for future use. If surface-level access is needed, the wider drainage design may need a suitable chamber, cover or inspection arrangement.

Access Bend Installation Use

The 160mm access bend should be installed as part of a properly designed underground drainage system. Before fitting, check the pipe route, fall direction, trench depth and access position.

Correct bedding and backfill are important. The pipe and fitting should be evenly supported so the drainage run remains stable after installation. Poor bedding can place stress on the joints and may affect long-term drainage performance.

Also, make sure the bend direction suits the drainage flow. Sharp bends should be used carefully in the layout, especially where solids may pass through the pipe. Where possible, maintain good access for future cleaning and inspection.

Always follow the site specification, current UK drainage guidance and the manufacturer’s installation instructions. This helps keep the system reliable, serviceable and suitable for long-term use.
