Description

Freefoam 150mm Shiplap Butt Joint

The Shiplap Butt Joint creates a neat, colour-matched connection between the ends of two Freefoam FC151 cladding boards. The moulded cover hides the cut board ends and maintains the distinctive overlapping shape of the 150mm shiplap profile.

This genuine Freefoam accessory is shaped specifically for FC151 shiplap cladding. It is a small individual joint piece rather than a continuous 3m joining profile.

How the Shiplap Butt Joint Works

The ends of two FC151 boards meet inside the joint cover. Its moulded face follows the shape of the installed shiplap board, helping the joint blend into the completed elevation.

The correct expansion clearance must still be maintained between the boards. The joint cover conceals this space while allowing the cladding to expand and contract in response to temperature changes.

When Is a Butt Joint Required?

FC151 boards are manufactured in 5m lengths. A butt joint is required where a horizontal course is wider than one complete board or where two shorter offcuts are joined within the same course.

The joint positions should normally be staggered between adjacent courses. This avoids creating one continuous vertical line of butt joints and produces a more balanced finished appearance.

Butt Joint or H Joining Trim?

The FC210 butt joint joins individual FC151 boards within one course. It follows the board profile and creates a small localised cover over the joint.

A continuous H trim is different. It creates a full-height vertical division across the entire clad elevation. Use the FC210 where individual board joints will be staggered, or use the appropriate H trim where the design requires one straight vertical break.

Compatible Cladding

This product is made for Freefoam FC151 standard and woodgrain shiplap cladding. It should not be used with Fortex Double Shiplap, Feather Edge, Shadow Gap or FV100 Open V boards, as those profiles use different joint pieces.

Installation Guidance

Plan the position of each board joint before cutting the cladding. Fit the joint cover as the boards are installed and maintain the expansion allowance required by Freefoam.

Support the board ends with suitable battens and ensure that neither board is fixed in a way that prevents normal thermal movement. Always follow the current Freefoam installation instructions.
