Freefoam Vented Starter Trim 3m
The Vented Starter Trim provides a secure and level starting point at the bottom of a Freefoam external cladding installation. Its built-in ventilation slots allow air to enter the cavity behind the cladding while supporting the lower edge of the first board.
This genuine Freefoam FC3123 profile is suitable for FC151 Shiplap and several other Freefoam cladding systems. Continuous ventilation behind the boards helps manage heat and moisture within the cavity and is an important part of a correctly designed external cladding installation.

How the Vented Starter Trim Works
The trim is fixed horizontally to suitable supporting battens at the bottom of the area being clad. Its ventilated section allows outside air to enter the cavity, while the upper section provides the starting point for the first cladding board.
Once the profile has been fixed straight and level, the first board is positioned into the starter and secured through its upper fixing lip. The remaining boards can then be installed in sequence above it.

Compatible Freefoam Cladding
Freefoam describes FC3123 as a universal ventilated starter suitable for its PVC cladding systems. It can be used with FC151 Shiplap, FV100 Open V, Fortex Double Shiplap, Feather Edge, Shadow Gap and other compatible Freefoam profiles.
The starter is installed behind the first board, so most of the profile is concealed when the cladding is complete. Freefoam manufactures White and Grey versions to suit light and dark installations.
White or Grey Vented Starter Trim
White is normally used behind White, Agate Grey and other lighter cladding colours. Grey can provide a less noticeable finish behind Black Ash, Anthracite Grey and other dark boards.
The selected colour does not need to match the cladding exactly because the main part of the profile remains hidden. However, choosing the closest light or dark option can produce a tidier finish where part of the ventilation detail remains visible.
Why Cladding Ventilation Matters
External PVC cladding should not be fixed directly against a solid wall without a ventilated cavity. Air must be able to enter at the bottom, travel behind the boards and leave at the top of the installation.
The airflow helps reduce trapped moisture and excessive heat behind the cladding. Correct ventilation, batten spacing and expansion allowances are essential for the long-term performance of the completed system.

Installation Guidance
Fix the starter profile to suitable treated battens at the bottom of the installation. Check that it is straight and level before fitting the first board, as any error at the starting point can continue through the rows above.
Maintain the ventilation cavity, batten centres and expansion clearances specified by Freefoam. Use suitable corrosion-resistant cladding screws and ensure that ventilation openings remain clear after installation.
