Description
The 160mm non return valve single flap is an underground drainage fitting used to help protect pipework from backwater, flooding and reverse flow. It is suitable for compatible 160mm underground drainage systems where foul water or surface water needs to flow in one direction only.
This inline non-return valve is designed for installation on horizontal drainage pipework. The internal flap opens with normal flow and closes automatically when backflow occurs. The manual lever also allows the flap to be closed when extra protection is needed, such as during long periods away from the property or where backwater risk is higher.
A 160mm non return valve is commonly used on larger domestic drainage systems, commercial drainage layouts, low-level drainage runs, outbuildings, yards and flood-risk areas. Single Flap Backwater Valve Design
This 160mm non return valve uses a single internal flap to control flow direction. Under normal drainage flow, the flap opens to let water pass through the pipe. If backflow occurs, the flap closes to help prevent water from returning through the drainage system.
The top access cover allows the valve to be inspected and maintained when required. Regular checking is important because any non-return valve can be affected by debris, silt, wipes or solid waste if the drainage system is not kept clear.
The manual lever gives extra control by allowing the flap to be closed when required. This should only be used when suitable for the drainage layout and when the system is not required for normal discharge.
160mm Non Return Valve Installation Use
The 160mm non return valve should be installed on a horizontal pipe run, with the valve facing the correct flow direction. Always check the arrow or flow marking on the fitting before installation.
The pipework should be clean, square cut and correctly aligned before jointing. Use suitable pipe lubricant on ring seal joints where required. Do not force the fitting into poor alignment, as this may affect the seal or the operation of the flap.
Correct bedding and backfill are important around the valve. The fitting should be evenly supported and positioned so the inspection cover remains accessible for future maintenance.
Backflow Protection for Site Drainage
This valve is a practical product for builders, groundworkers, landscapers and drainage installers working with 160mm underground drainage systems. It can be used on new installations, drainage alterations, repairs and flood-protection upgrades.
For best results, the wider drainage layout should include suitable access for inspection, cleaning and rodding. A non-return valve should not be used as a replacement for proper drainage design, rodding access or regular system maintenance.
